Fresh or canned fruits are generally first alternate foods dieters turn to when starting to diet. Canned fruits are easy to use. Canned fruits are hardy, take a beating, and are perfectly happy laying in a desk drawer for weeks on end until someone wants to eat them. Of course canned fruits do not require being refrigerated, and can take some heat before they start turning into sauce inside of their can.
With all that going for canned fruit why bother with fresh fruit? After all fresh fruit is fragile. Fresh fruit does not tolerate heat very well. Fresh fruit bruises easily, and does not do well when forgotten in a drawer for any length of time. Fresh fruit also has a short shelf life from the market before it starts to lose its appeal as something we generally want to eat.
Fresh fruit does do a lot for us on the inside where it counts the most. Especially when dieting and looking for tasty and reasonable to snack on. Fresh fruit does not contain concentrated sugars, and usually not the quantity of sugar calories that canned fruits have. Fresh fruit also is full of different types of fiber in the form of peels, fruit meat, and small seed parts.
We need those fruit peels, fruit meat, and small seed parts as fiber to help us feel full longer and aid in having good digestion. Fresh fruit means food moves through our body and gets digested at a proper rate.
Fresh fruits besides generally being lower in sugar, have small amounts of rare nutrients that our bodies use which we ordinarily may not have in our diets. Fresh fruit does not have those extras canned fruits sometimes have used for canning and extended shelf life.
Fresh fruit should be washed to remove any trace chemicals left over from any type of spraying, whether insecticide or fertilizer before eating. As we are in charge of our fruit cleaning instead of a factory line, we know if our fruit is cleaned to our standards, and not another’s idea of how well cleaned fruit should be before canning.
Anyone serious about dieting needs to include healthy daily portions of various fresh fruits each and every day. Fresh fruit perks us up by charging our bodies energy cells, cleans the plumbing with the included free fiber, and helps us feel full longer.
The biggest win from eating fresh fruit is the tremendous variety of different fruits as the seasons change. No matter where we live (almost), every trip to the market for fresh fruit means not buying and eating the same type of fruit over and over. As the seasons change, out of season fruits go up in price and in season fruits come down in price. Smart shopping leads to variety and savings.
With the internet and its seemingly unlimited information, even if you purchase fruit you know nothing about but the name, you will easily find a number of ways to prepare and eat it. Even with common fruits we eat every day, a few minutes on the internet, will provide any number of new ideas to tempt our fruit craving taste buds.
What a sad way to have to look at fresh fruit! Just to look at it, says to me ..eat me! And the variety – many of which you can’t get in cans. Canned fruit doesn’t taste half as good as the original. Our shops at the moment are so full of fresh fruit, its difficult to know how to limit your choice So I don’t – I have some of each!
